The Epiphany of Jesus

Updated: Jan 6

At Four Peaks Christian Church, we firmly believe that it is crucial to seize every opportunity to not only spread God’s Word but also to commemorate significant days in the church year as a way to honor the work of our Lord God. While Epiphany Sunday and other “liturgical” days on our church calendar may not be explicitly sanctioned by God, meaning that believers are not specifically called upon to participate in or celebrate these days, they serve as opportunities to spread God’s Word through globally recognized times throughout the church year.

On Epiphany Sunday, we take this opportunity to remember that the work of our Lord

transcends the grand celebrations we hold to commemorate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. These celebrations don’t merely conclude until Easter. By designating special Sundays as days of remembrance throughout the year, just as we do communion, and in conjunction with our general teachings of God’s Word, our objective is to cultivate a perpetual awareness of the path Christ took for our eternal salvation.

As we observe Epiphany Sunday, we are not following a ritual; instead, we are actively engaging in what transpired after the birth of Jesus as He grew up and prepared for His life of ministry and ultimately, His death on the cross as an atonement for our sins. It is our hope that as we reflect on the epiphany—God revealing the gospel to the world through Jesus’ birth and subsequent baptism—we would be continually encouraged by all that the Savior has done and continues to do in our lives throughout the year.

Remember, in God’s goodness, the absence of birth signifies the absence of death. The absence of death signifies the absence of life, and the absence of life signifies eternal separation from God. Therefore, we hope that anyone who has not accepted the gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ will investigate for themselves all that God is prepared to offer to those who seek it.
